Diabetic nephropathy is one of the major causes of chronic renal failure. It is a common microvascular complication and clinically defined by the presence of persistent proteinuria (>0.5 g/day) Although many investigatore are resaerching for the

pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy it is not well known
@ES There are 3 phases.
@EN 1) early phase is characterized by microalbuminuria
2) overt diabetic nephropathy with persistent proteinuria
3) chronic renal failure
It is important to detect diabetic nephropathy earlier and the progression to renal failure can be retarded with proper treatment. Control of blood pressure, blood sugar and dietary traetment are neccessory to the patients with diabetic
nephropathy.
